چکیده

Correspondence t Davidson. The increased use of malaria prophylaxis has led to more reports of drug induced toxicity. Hepatic, renal, skin, and bone marrow effects are well recognised. Five cases of pulmonary toxicity and systemic illness after the use of pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine (Fansidar) have been reported.'-' In two of these reports rapidly progressive respiratory failure developed and open lung biopsy showed eosinophilic pneumonia. We report four cases of pulmonary eosinophilia: three patients became ill after taking pyrimethaminedapsone (Maloprim; Wellcome) and one after taking pyrimethamine-chloroquine (Daraclor; Wellcome).

Prophylaxis of Malaria

Malaria prevention in travelers to endemic areas remains dependent principally on chemoprophylaxis. Although malaria chemoprophylaxis refers to all malaria species, a distinction should be drawn between falciparum malaria prophylaxis and the prophylaxis of the relapsing malaria species (vivax & ovale). While the emergence of drug resistant strains, as well as the costs and adverse reactions to ...
